MEETING RIA....

It was dark, raining and I was waiting. We had never seen each other before. I thought that I can recognize her. I’m an optimistic person you know. Finally she came and I waved to her. That was my first real encounter with Ria.

We knew each other through blogs. She’s the first blogger buddy whom I’ve met in real. We never chatted though and then began our chatter over coffee. As goes the adage, a lot can happen over coffee. I had my tiny lil’ sis with me (Yeah,we come in a package deal.)
We talked about our lives, interests but not much about blogging. I never knew that she belongs to my state. We split in English,Oriya and Hindi. (I do not know any more languages). She was such a mixing young lady. ( I refer her as “young” coz she said I look 18…). The three of us had a good time together, discovering so many things in common( No,we don’t share the same guy…..lol).

The only hitch was a howling kid who spoiled the ambience ( I had never seen a MBBS in a CCD outlet before ).Maybe it’s a cardinal rule that I always come across crying babies in cafes and restaurants.
**MBBS==miya biwi bachon sahit ( husband, wife and child)

I know my pj’s are getting too much on your nerves, so I think I better sign off. I’m looking forward to meet all my blogger friends (in real/live) . Hope my wish is fulfilled soon.

P.S.: Mayz gave Ria a missed call during our date.
@Ria, Thanx for the tip on inserting links. It works :)
@Raka, Sorry dear..We forgot to click pictures :(

Is there any viable alternative to AFSPA?

The mere mention of armed forces evokes the image of courage, bravery and discipline in India. However, in north-east India and Jammu and Kashmir, the picture is vastly altered. Military force is synonymous with fear, brutality and suspicion. The main reason behind this contradictory public image is the “draconian” law, Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act. It has vested the armed forces with absolute power mainly to aid fight against terrorism and insurgency. Fake encounters and disappearances make headlines.  At times, it is a case of mistaken identity. Violence in Jammu and Kashmir has increased since implementation of AFSPA in 1990. Similar incidents are reported from the north-eastern states.
Jeevan Reddy Commission (2005) had recommended repealing AFSPA and bringing a humanitarian law in place. However, no concrete steps have been taken by th…

77 FICTION : TEAR FILLED EYES

The eyes searched someone. The one she could run to at times of need. In someone’s lap, she would pour out all her troubles.
Nobody came.  She grew up, rimmed her eyes with kohl. But they could never hide her tears.
No one came when her soul was ripped apart. No one heard her cries. No one mourned her loss.
After  a while, she thought that tears were a part of the eyes.
