My takeaway for the New Year

"The day shall usher in a new era of liberty when a large number of men and women, taking courage from the idea of serving humanity and liberating them from sufferings and distress, decide that there is no alternative before them except devoting their lives for this cause. They will wage a war against their oppressors, tyrants or exploiters, not to become kings, or to gain any reward here or in the next birth or after death in paradise; but to cast off the yoke of slavery, to establish liberty and peace they will tread this perilous, but glorious path."  ~ An extract from “Why I am an Atheist” by Bhagat Singh

This verse from Bhagavat Gita loosely translates as :
"For the upliftment of the good and the virtuous,  For the destruction of evil, For the re-establishment of the natural law, I will come, in every age.”

I faintly remember a poem by Rabindranath Tagore which went like :
We are God's children, who is the lord of the earth; All of us are princes and princesses, We …

Promise me.

Promise me not to wither away, For you were once the object of my love.
I was smitten at first sight, but you never knew, You were the one I yearned for secretly.
With familiarity, the magic spell broke, I realized your vulnerability, your weaknesses.
I stepped back. Perhaps it was a sham. You ceased to charm me.
With time, I started to loathe you. Your presence annoyed me.
But when you said,"I wish I were dead", Something tugged my heart. I froze with fear.
I don't exactly know what holds me unto you, Is it our affection or the thought of separation ?
In love, maybe, you never loved back. In hatred, I fancy you are around, hating me back.

Promise me not to wither away, For I want to be the object of your hatred.

My Favourite Lines from 'The Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho

'The Alchemist'  was one of the first books I read (that is when I realized I liked reading). I re-read it recently and here are most of my favorite  lines from the book.

'It is the simple things in life that are most extraordinary;only the wise men are able to understand them.'

'At a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world's greatest lie.'

'Whoever you are, or whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it's because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It's your mission on earth.'

'And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.'

'If you start by promising what you don't even have yet, you'll lose your desire to work towards getting it.'

'The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon…

THE ONLY LETTER

Not too dear You, I met you a couple of hours ago. I wish I never had. You were best in fantasy. Once upon a time, we saw the world in same colours. You never spoke but I understood. You were fiery and enthusiastic. I was determined and willful. Nevertheless we built our lives separately. We never tried to know each other. Maybe I imagined you as someone you were not. He loves me in his quaint way. He rarely says but I understand (just like I understood you). Or misunderstood? I was shocked when you told me “I had my eyes on you.”  I kept repeating those words in my mind all the time. Am I an object? Someone who you could use? And possibly discard? I was ashamed of myself. You were a moment’s weakness; he is my pillar of strength. No! I’m not comparing. Thanks for making me realize that I chose the right person. Not Yours, Me.
